Origin[]
Varix was a venerable law enforcement officer on the planet Naktos. He was given his ring by the aging Green-Lantern Ghrelk after Ghrelk was forced to retire due to a mysterious illness that destroyed his brain. Varix was a hypochondriac. In addition to his predecessor's fall to disease, half of his world was decimated by the yellow plague of Ghera. He was a member of the Green Lantern Corps serving in the Alpha-Lanterns and he protected Sector 0069.

Varix, having finally turned against the other Alpha Lanterns for abusing their power in sentencing John Stewart to death, takes his own life shortly after killing the other four Alpha lanterns at the conclusion of the Alpha War arc in volume 3 of Green-Lantern Corps.
